Logistics

Getting in, getting out.

How to get there

Fly Cusco to Puerto Maldonado (35 min). 3 days minimum to be worth it. Cheaper and easier than Iquitos.

What the budget covers

All-inclusive lodge: flights from Cusco/Lima ($150 RT), boat transfers, all meals, guides, activities. Budget operators (Tambopata Travel) start ~$700 for 4D/3N; premium lodges (Refugio Amazonas, Inkaterra) run $2,000+ for 3D/2N.

Late March, here

Wettest season — heavy rain, mosquitos, but rivers high (good for boat travel) and wildlife is active. Bring DEET and rain gear.
